What Are Compound Words
The words that are written together to produce a new meaning are called compound words. There are three ways to write compound words:
Open compound words (spelled as two words)
Examples:
- real estate, high school
Closed compound words (spelled as one word no pace between two words)
Examples:
- sunflower, farmhouse
Hyphenated compound words (words are joined by hyphen)
Examples:
- father-in-law, seventy-two, check-in
